SVFC U17s v Warlingham Colts

First game of the season and after 3 wins in preseason confidence was running high. The game was intense from the off, Warlingham pressed high and forced us to be at our best. After working on our defensive shape in training it was great to see Warlingham barely make it into our box. Fantastic work from Ryan, Joe, Samir and Oli. After keeping a nice spell of possession Jamie Mander placed it sweetly into the side netting to put us up 1-0. The game was still tight and a lead was probably underserved however the performance just got better and better. Henry following up a loose ball in the box to score first time and the boys come in at half time 2-0 up.

We asked the boys at half time if we could try and keep the ball in the middle more and then exploit the width. They did just that, the midfield 3 of Cormac, Henry and Jamie kept the ball and sprayed it wide to our wingers. Then up pops left back Oli who plays in our number 9 Junior who cooly converts and makes it 3-0.

Anton in goal was hardly called into action due to a solid defensive performance yet stayed alert, communicated well and distributed perfectly.

Man of the match today was Oli Jacobs, played out of position at left back but looked as comfortable as ever, keeping us in the game at 1-0. Well played mate.

A thoroughly good performance and a statement of intent that this league is ours for the taking. We will be the team to beat. Well done boys and we go again next week!

Thanks to the parents that came and supported and helped out with the goals.
