SVFC U17’s 1 - 3 Bromley Solis

A tough result to take this morning but one that was needed to give the boys a reality check.

This was our first game in a month due to the weather so I was expecting the boys to be slightly rusty, but some of the effort levels were unacceptable.

With one player dropping out late last night and another one not turning up in the morning left us with a 12 man squad. The first half performance was poor from both teams, we didn’t show any of our identity until the 40th minute where Junior converted a through ball from Cormac but by that time we were already 2-0 down due to very poor defending from a dubious free-kick and a lapse of concentration. It was 2-1 to Bromley at half time.

Bromley defended very deep and left the width empty to be exploited, we encouraged the lads to turn out and use that space. We were the better side in that opening 20 minutes, creating chance after chance including a 1 on 1 which simply had to be scored if we wanted to get anything out of the game. Another poor refereeing decision awarded Bromley a free-kick to which an unmarked player made it 3-1. The heads dropped and the effort fell.

The game ended 3-1 in defeat.

We can moan about the referee all day and blame him for giving the free-kicks however we cannot blame him for us failing to organise and defend effectively.

I felt sorry for some of the boys out there who gave it their all, especially in defense as the effort and attitude from some players was simply not good enough.

After games like these we have to look ourselves in the mirror and think “Do we really want to play football” and if that answer is yes then we go again and we train harder than ever next week to rectify this performance.

Remember this feeling boys because none of us want to feel it again.
